PROJECTS

Here's stuff that I've done... and stuff I'm still working on.

PhosphoreSense

PhosphoreSense is a combination of Dance, Computer Science and Media Arts. The piece uses a custom built application to display a visualization based on movement and projects this onto the stage. It was performed as part of the dance department's fall informal showcase concert on November 30, 2007.

The dance was choreographed by Johanna Ciampa and performed by Chelsea Densmore and Johanna. I ran the visual effects via the software while the piece was performed. Johanna and I also wrote and recorded the music for the piece.

Musaic

Musaic is an experimental music and image aggregator. It's my attempt at dynamic internet-based art. You give it the name of a song and the artist and it processes the lyrics to show you a collage of images based on the song. The images are all downloaded from Flickr.com. If you play the song at the same time, some really neat coincidences come up. The project used to be built in Flash and has since moved to a 3D OpenGL based application.

The song in the screenshot is "Yellow Submarine" by the Beatles.

UM Portal

I work at the Information Technology Office at the University of Montana. For the past couple of years I've been working on the portal. I deal a lot with the user-interface aspect of the portal, making it (hopefully) easy to use and intuitive. If you're a student at UM you can log in and check it out.

If you're not a student at UM and you want to check it out anyway, send me an email and I'll give you a tour.

Artspace UM

As part of an independent study for my minor in Media Arts, I helped build the Artspace UM site. The site is basically an interactive gallery for Media Arts students to display their work -- video, animation, sound design and still images. I worked on the interface programming, and contributed some of my own pieces to the site.

Artspace should be up and running in beta mode at the start of Fall 2006.

The Giving

As the other part of my independent study for Media Arts, I wrote, performed and recorded the film score for the documentary The Giving. The documentary is a really touching look at the birthmothers of adopted children and the experiences that they go through when they place their children for adoption.
